Alex Cheung

VP of SEIT

Alex Cheung is Zap’s Vice President of Systems Engineering, Integration & Testing (SEIT), leading the teams that bring Zap’s technologies together into integrated, tested systems ready for deployment.

Cheung has spent more than 20 years in fusion energy research, working on everything from fusion propulsion concepts to experimental devices, particle accelerators, facilities, and power plant concepts. Before joining Zap in 2022, he spent 15 years at TAE Technologies, where he helped design, build, and operate the C-2, C-2U, and C-2W (Norman) devices, the world’s largest linear fusion research devices of their kind. He also served as program manager for several versions of Copernicus, TAE’s demonstration machine, and for its commercial power plant projects. As onsite project manager for TAE Life Sciences in Xiamen, China, he led the installation and commissioning of a first-of-its-kind accelerator-based boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) system, which is now in Phase 2 clinical trials. Cheung holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from the University of California, Irvine.
